Install Altiwind on your home screen

Add the Altiwind web app to your iPhone or Android home screen in a few taps. No App Store, no account, and your last forecast stays available offline.

Updated 2026-10-22

Altiwind is a web app, so you can add it to your phone's home screen straight from the browser, with no App Store or Google Play. It then opens full screen from its own icon, like any other app, and keeps your last forecast on the phone for when you're out of signal.

iPhone (Safari)

  1. Open altiwind.com/app/ in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button. Depending on your tab layout, it's either on the toolbar or inside the ••• menu.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen. If it isn't there, tap Edit Actions at the bottom of the list and add it.
  4. Leave Open as Web App switched on, then tap Add.

These steps match Apple's guide (checked October 2026). Since iOS 16.4, other iPhone browsers can offer the same option from their own Share menu, as WebKit announced in February 2023.

Android (Chrome)

  1. Open altiwind.com/app/ in Chrome.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu to the right of the address bar.
  3. Tap Install app. Some Chrome versions call it Add to home screen or Install and create shortcut.
  4. Tap Install to confirm.

Google's Chrome help page has the current wording for your version (checked October 2026).

What you get

  • An icon on your home screen that opens Altiwind full screen, without browser bars.
  • Your last forecast offline. Altiwind keeps the last forecast you loaded on the phone, so it still opens on a hilltop with no signal. It is the forecast from when you were last online, so refresh when you're back in coverage.
  • Sun times offline. Sunrise, sunset and twilight are computed on the phone, so they're always current. See twilight and night.
  • Updates without a store. When we improve the app, you get the new version the next time it loads with a connection.

A native iPhone app is planned for later. The web app is the full product today, not a cut-down preview.

Example

You check the forecast at home before driving to a hill with no mobile signal. At the top, you open Altiwind from your home screen: the forecast you loaded at home is still there, with the go/no-go score for each hour and today's sunset time, so you can see how much light is left without a connection.

Privacy

Installing changes nothing about privacy. There is no account, there are no ads and no trackers, and the server only sees grid cells about 5 km across, never your exact coordinates.

Is it free?

Yes. Installing is free, and the app covers today and the next 24 hours for a saved spot and your drone profile.

FAQ

Do I need the App Store or Google Play?

No. Altiwind installs from the browser. Open the web app, add it to your home screen and you're done.

Does it work offline?

Partly. The last forecast you loaded and the sun times work without signal. A new forecast needs a connection.

Is there a native app?

A native iPhone app is planned for later, with no date yet. The installed web app does everything Altiwind offers today.

How do I remove it?

Touch and hold the icon and remove it, just like any other app. You can add it again any time from the browser.
