Airspace overlays, coming in v1.1

Planned for Altiwind v1.1, informational airspace overlays for the US, Germany, France and Switzerland, always linked to the official sources.

Updated 2026-10-22

Airspace overlays are planned for Altiwind v1.1. They will be informational map layers for the US (from FAA data), Germany, France and Switzerland, each with a link to the official source. Until then, use your official national app or map for airspace, and Altiwind for the weather.

What's planned

  • Four countries first: the US, using FAA data, plus Germany, France and Switzerland. We'll update this page if that list changes.
  • Informational layers drawn from officially published data, never our own interpretation of it.
  • A link to the official source on every overlay, so you can check the original with one tap.

There is no release date yet beyond "v1.1".

What it won't be

Altiwind is a weather product. It is not an airspace authority, and the overlays won't be either:

  • They won't tell you whether you can fly somewhere. That decision rests with the official sources and your local rules.
  • Published data can change or arrive late, so the official app or map always wins if the two disagree.
  • Like the rest of Altiwind, the overlays are not for air navigation.

We won't explain airspace rules on this site. If you need them, check your local rules with your national aviation authority.

Until then

Use your country's official drone app or map for airspace, and use Altiwind for what it is built for:

Example

You're planning a Saturday flight from a park on the edge of town. Today you'd check the official map for airspace, then open Altiwind to see whether the wind at 60 m and the estimated gusts are within your drone's limits that morning. Once v1.1 arrives, an overlay in Altiwind can act as a reminder, with a link to the official source to confirm.
